Ah yes. Another beautiful spring day. I worked, I ate, I IM'd with Joey, I IM'd with Katie, I worked out the wording for my graduation announcements. Not exactly conducive to doing schoolwork. So here I am, more than halfway through the week and having absolutely none of this week's work done. In fact, I have yet to finish my art journal, a task which, although it will take less than ten minutes to complete, has been on my to-do list for a week and a half. I did do some Guitar today, that was a good thing. Work was kind of weird today. I did the usual housekeeping thing, then Manager David had me do some office work. He was outside and told me to get the phone if it rang. It did, and I did. Who else was on the line but Lisa, the head housekeeper who has been wanting to get into the type of office work that I've been doing. Normally, housekeepers don't answer the phones, so she might suspect that something is up. He also had me drive to another motel (owned by the same guy) about 15 miles down the road to borrow some heaters. It is nice to get paid to drive around on a nice day, let me tell you. At the end of the day, David sat me down to talk to me "about shopping." After an exceedingly slow discussion about - of all things - scrunchies, he got to his point, which was that he wants me to buy about $100 worth of nice scrunchies next time I go shopping in the city. Why, you ask? Why would a forty-something single man be interested in tons of hair scrunchies? He and his friend are starting an Internet business and they plan to repackage the scrunchies in sets of four . . . as "Bedroom Bracelets." One on each wrist and each ankle. He told me how he wanted to get a sampling of a variety of solid colors and that they should be soft and blah blah blah. He also opted to share that he had a female friend who was going to come in and model for photos of the various products they are going to sell. Now, after our long discussion (seriously like half an hour of . . . "and they come in solid colors?" . . . "How much would the most expensive scrunchie in the mall cost?" . . . "They're a real turn-on for a lot of guys") of scrunchies, and at the end of my workday, I was ready to go. He asked if I could pick up some scrunchies for him, and I said "sure" and left. In retrospect, I think that was a mistake I am going to have to rectify. When I thought about it, I realized that I, a female minor, would be buying items for her employer to sell on his "adult" web site. This does not seem like a good situation, but correct me if I'm wrong. If he hadn't shared so much information with me and I was just going to buy scrunchies and that's all I knew, that would be fine. But honestly . . . Bedroom Bracelets? I don't use hair scrunchies anyway, but if I ever acquire one I will never wear it to work.
