nap attempt, success, monks

2001-12-06

Today was Detox Day. And I declare it a success.

It all started yesterday, when I awoke at 9 a.m. I heard the rain on the roof. It was nice. I took a shower.

(FFWD to 4 p.m.)

Kalindi called me to see if we could have Movie Night. We could, and we did. People: Danny, Kalindi, and I. Anya is in the city, as she is for most of every week, and Sly Josh gave a variety of excuses for not coming, including but not limited to "I have homework," "It's your guys' thing," and "I don't feel comfortable around you guys." Don't ask me why, because I don't know.

Movies: Monty Python and the Holy Grail (8 bazillion stars)& Memento (also very good).

Food: 3 bags of KettleMania popcorn (it's microwave popcorn that has sugar in the bag, which makes the popcorn just a little sweet - it's surprisingly delectable), most of a box of Entenmann's Popems (glazed doughnut holes), 1 Blackberry Home Run Pie (that was me, the other two didn't want any even though I had bought a whole dollar's worth - four pies!), 4 Sodas (all consumed by the two people who are not me).

Ok so Movie Night was good, bonding time is good. But that's why today is Detox Day, because I felt so disgusting after last night that I wanted to cleanse my poor abused body. So I ate only fruits, vegetables, and whole foods like oatmeal today, and drank massive amounts of water. And it worked. I feel good.

Today, class was inhumanely early, as usual, and I arrived on time and both of my classmates were very late, as usual. I don't know what I did when I got home. I haven't done any schoolwork today; somehow I managed to accomplish nothing.

After Danny called and invited me to come to his youth group, I decided to take a nap. I asked my mom to wake me up in half an hour, and stressed that I absolutely had to be out of bed and moving around in half an hour so that I'd still be able to sleep tonight. So I came into my room and curled up in the spot on my bed that didn't have my backpack or papers or mail on it and went to sleep. Well, TWO HOURS LATER, I happened to wake up. I went to help my mom, since she was obviously laying in the tub electrocuted or something. No, she was in her office, completely wrapped up in whatever paperwork she was doing. I said, "Hey, thanks for forgetting to wake me up." She said, "What? Oh," and went back to work. Umm, ok. I then noticed that she also forgot about the fire, and the fire was out, so the fan was just making everything cold instead of circulating warm air. So I built a fire.

Danny and Sly Josh came, and we had to take their truck so they could get gas or something. It was the first time I've ridden with Danny driving. Not a bad experience. He did, however, choose the most roundabout possible route to go to their youth group, which baffled me. We were way late, but it still hadn't started when we got there because no one had the keys to the church. So everyone was congregated outside. It was all right. The best part of the night was that Sly Josh and I are back on good terms. I don't know how we got off of such terms, but we were definitely off. But I carefully pulled him out of the shell he was retreating into. He tried to be all quiet but by the end of the night we were all having a rollicking good time. Yes.

So, I declare today a success. My body is cleansed and this relationship, as far as I can see right now, is healed.

Today there was a guy in the post office wearing a skirt. This may not be an abnormal occurance in other places, but here, in an area with 1500 residents or something along those lines, people who dress outside the "norm" get noticed. It wasn't a kilt, it was like a long gray tech skirt. Something I would wear. And he was wearing it with a black fleece sweatshirt and black boots. It was weird, because he was clean looking and he matched and stuff. I found out, from glancing at the mailings he left on the counter (I was behind him in line, see) that he is somehow involved in a monastery. The address of this monastery is near my house, but I've never known about it before. So I'm going to look it up online to see what I can find out. He looked pretty hip for a guy wearing a skirt. Maybe it's like a mod-style monastery. Maybe the monks throw raves. Umm, sorry. There was a monastery right by my old house, too. They had a sign up and we used to see the guy getting his mail, wearing a long brown robe thing with a rope around his waist.

Well, enough monk musings for now, I suppose.
